Cults come to Pearl Street

Tonight, the Indie pop angst-babies of the band Cults will be playing at Pearl Street. Band members Brian Oblivion (guitar, vocals, percussion) and Madeline Follin (vocals) began making music together while at The New School in Manhattan in 2010. Only two years later they’ve since completed a live five-piece band and released their self-titled album.

Spring Transitions

Although this winter hasn’t been especially treacherous– I think we are all ready for some serious spring fashion. Break out the lighter coats and cheerful colors, ladies, because black and gray are so last month. “But,” you will inevitably retort, “It was 26 degrees yesterday.” Yes, but it’s 40 today! We can dress with spring-like freshness without risking that pesky end-of-winter cold – it’s all about transition wear.

“Uncommon Playwrights” united by an uncommon woman

Gamble auditorium took a while to fill up. The gradual change from empty to not quite empty describes the increase in my knowledge on the subject of Wendy Wasserstein. I knew next to nothing about her, until I attended “Uncommon Playwrights.” Ever since I spent an evening with a panel of three celebrated playwrights who have known her and been inspired by her.

Musings on Moho fashion

The summer before arriving at Mount Holyoke, I found myself daydreaming in my cubicle about the transition I was about to embark upon in the impending autumn season. I was to go from working 9-5 in an administrative position at a conservative construction management office on Cape Cod to taking classes on a colorful liberal arts campus in Western MA.

The Nerdist in Noho: The Aftermath

Scene: The Iron Horse Music Hall on the chilly night of Nov. 30. The crowd is bustling in anticipation for Chris Hardwick. My friend, Ashleigh, and I are seated in the far back. We order the (not) spicy (but quite savory) bean dip and a Stella beer. After a few remarks on my State of Hawaii ID by the waitress (yes, I am from Hawaii, no, my name isn’t McLovin), he finally shows up. everybody!

The Nerdist in the Valley

Chris Hardwick is the host of The Nerdist Podcast, a somewhat explicit weekly interview show about “nerd-ness.” The Nerdist has interviewed guests ranging from Adam Savage to Zooey Deschanel to the Muppets. From the podcasts I have listened to, this dude’s very capable of tickling your funny bone. The opening music sounds like a throwback Mario Brothers video game, and the general meat of the show is sprinkled with witty vulgarities that will surely endear you; it certainly did for me.

FS in New York… for cake!

Food Scavenger (FS) recently discovered her love for cake. She happened to find this bakery, which has her taro bun and many different kinds of mousse cake; FS had chocolate: light, fluffy and delicious.
On Yelp, it’s Tai Pan, but as you can see from the sign, it’s Taipan Bakery so FS goes with then sign.
