Tennis hosts Seven Sisters

Vassar College won this year’s Seven Sisters tennis tournament, which was held here at Mount Holyoke last weekend. The Brewers swept Smith and Bryn Mawr 5-0 on Saturday, April 14. On Sunday they downed Mount Holyoke 5-0 before hanging on to defeat Wellesley 3-2 in the final match of the tournament.

Crew competes at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester

The Crew team spent the nice weather over the weekend racing at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, MA. On Saturday, April 14, the Crew team performed well by taking top honors in their first varsity race against Smith. Mount Holyoke’s first varsity eight passed Smith and won by approximately nine seconds, with the time of 7:13.90.

Smith triumphs over Lyons lacrosse

On Tuesday night the Lyons hosted rival Smith College in a NEWMAC women’s lacrosse showdown. It was a big game, promoted via chalked announcements around campus. For the Lyons, it was a chance to break a two game losing streak, and what better way to do that than by taking down your archrival in front of your home crowd?

Riding advances to Nationals with first place finish at Zone championships

Last Saturday the Mount Holyoke Equestrian team hosted Zone Championships – a team competition between the four regional champions in Zone 1. The Lyons have been dominant this year, riding to eight High Point (first place overall) finishes, and on Saturday they added a ninth High Point honor.

Like some other club sports, Ultimate Frisbee is taught as a gym class, but people who enjoy playing can continue to play on the Frisbee team. It is a fall and spring club sport, giving people the chance to play for most of the year.

Baylor finishes perfect season with NCAA Division I championship

The Baylor Bears are the new queens in the world of women’s Division I college basketball. The Lady Bears defeated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 80-61 on Tuesday night to win the NCAA Division I women’s basketball tournament.

Lyons top MIT, fall to Skidmore

On Saturday, March 31, the Lyons traveled to MIT to play the Engineers. The Lyons won 17-11, but it was not a smooth ride to the finish line. With only three minutes left in the first half, the Lyons found themselves down 10-6. However, the Lyons headed into the second half with strikes by sophomores Naomi Miller and Liz Randolph. After that, the Lyons dominated the rest of the game, coming out in the beginning of the second half and scoring nine goals in a row.

Let the Madness begin

The 2011 March Madness Men’s Division I college basketball tournament ended with a final thriller between the Connecticut Huskies and the Butler Bulldogs. The UConn Huskies were able to pull out a win to claim the tournament title. This year, however, UConn will not be one of the teams to beat, despite their win last year. The Huskies drew a number nine seed in last Sunday’s tournament selection.
