The Nerdist in Noho: The Aftermath

Scene: The Iron Horse Music Hall on the chilly night of Nov. 30. The crowd is bustling in anticipation for Chris Hardwick. My friend, Ashleigh, and I are seated in the far back. We order the (not) spicy (but quite savory) bean dip and a Stella beer. After a few remarks on my State of Hawaii ID by the waitress (yes, I am from Hawaii, no, my name isn’t McLovin), he finally shows up. everybody!

The Nerdist in the Valley

Chris Hardwick is the host of The Nerdist Podcast, a somewhat explicit weekly interview show about “nerd-ness.” The Nerdist has interviewed guests ranging from Adam Savage to Zooey Deschanel to the Muppets. From the podcasts I have listened to, this dude’s very capable of tickling your funny bone. The opening music sounds like a throwback Mario Brothers video game, and the general meat of the show is sprinkled with witty vulgarities that will surely endear you; it certainly did for me.

FS in New York… for cake!

Food Scavenger (FS) recently discovered her love for cake. She happened to find this bakery, which has her taro bun and many different kinds of mousse cake; FS had chocolate: light, fluffy and delicious.
On Yelp, it’s Tai Pan, but as you can see from the sign, it’s Taipan Bakery so FS goes with then sign.

Fall is here, so bake a pumpkin!

During Oct. people often decorate pumpkins by carving them and making them into jack-o-lanterns, but Food Scavenger (FS) would rather turn them into a meal. So FS roams about the campus finding those unneeded pumpkins left out to rot on a kitchenette table, on the floor or used by a dining hall for decoration.

Andrew Bird’s soaring performance

Andrew Bird turned the Calvin Theater into his playground last Thursday night in Northampton, MA. From singing and whistling to playing the guitar and violin, Bird showcased a wide variety of his musical talents. A fan since 2008, seeing his performance reminded me of how important it is to continue experiencing music live rather just on iTunes.

Hanson returns to Northampton

On October 7th, the infamous nineties brother band Hanson -yes HANSON- performed at the Calvin Theater in Northampton, MA to a crowd of overly enthusiastic college aged women, and their not so enthusiastic boyfriends.

Your best friend in the summer ought to be edible

Per usual, Food Scavenger (FS) has been on a food craze. There are some flavors that surprise her. Banana, for one. It is after all banana. What could be more innocent, more bland, or more tempting than banana? But that is where FS was sorely wrong. For Banana Ice Cream, while not bad-ass like peach [...]

It’s pink! It’s cold! It’s delicious! It’s strawberry!

Food Scavenger has always been one to keep her promises, especially in regards to food. So below is a picture with a specific recipe for brandy strawberry yogurt ice cream (what a mouthful in more ways than one…).

Let not your taste bud idolatry blind you to other flavors…

Sometimes, Food Scavenger can be quite foolish. Like typing up an entire post in a sticky note and then inexplicably closing the sticky note. Like scoffing inside at the idea of rum and raisin ice cream usurping flavors like coffee and chocolate.

Happy 21st! (Let’s not lose consciousness here…)

It’s a new year and Food Scavenger (FS) accordingly has celebrated her incoming 21st birthday by indulging in one of the adult vices known to man. The indulgence is rather different from the usual set of sex, drugs, and booze, because FS, as evidenced by her chosen name, is all about the FOOD. FS is [...]
