Tumblr’s newest troll: President Obama

Last week the 2012 Obama campaign launched their official Tumblr page, signifying that the line between internet culture and campaign culture has been breached. The first post described the campaign Tumblr as “a huge collaborative storytelling effort—a place for people across the country to share what’s going on in our respective corners of it.” Obama’s campaign creating a Tumblr gives the micro-blogging site some official street cred. Political strategists have recognized the site as a way to reach the masses, or at least some subset of the masses. Tumblr is still in its infancy and there remains a significant part of the population who are unaware or unfamiliar with this interactive blogging site.

The Rum Diary Review

Based on the novel by legendary journalist and eccentric Hunter S. Thompson, The Rum Diary could be considered a sort of prequel to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), which was an adaptation of another Thompson novel. Johnny Depp plays the lead role in both films; in The Rum Diary he plays Thompson’s alter ego, a journalist named Paul Kemp and in Fear and Loathing , he embodied the journalist himself.

Fall T.V. gets the acts

November is just around the corner and already a crop of the year’s new shows is getting the axe. The sudden ending of some of these shows comes as a surprise; to others, a relief. First to go was NBC’s The Playboy Club, which ended after only three episodes.

Fans dominate the cult T.V. landscape

Television is everywhere these days. You can watch your favorite show on your computer, on your phone and even suspended at 39,000 feet in an airplane. With all the potential outlets for media access, it is remarkable that a show can fly under the radar – and yet, every year many shows do just that.

Fall-ing into fashion: a guide on what to wear

Cultivating a personal style is a wonderful outlet for self expression, but on campus, where walking around in the often harsh New England climate is a daily activity, this can be difficult. In the summer months, we have to fight high temperatures, and in the winter and early spring months, we have to contend with the cold, snow and spring slush. Dressing to trudge to class in these conditions often leaves little room for experimentation with fashion.

Footloose struggles to find fresh perspective

Based on the beloved teen dance movie of the eighties, the remake of the classic Footloose would be totally forgettable were it not for its faithfulness to its original source. Nevertheless, this update is at least a refreshing change from the unimaginative dance movies plaguing the silver screen these days that depend heavily on choreography rather than plot. This new incarnation of Footloose stays true to the original film for the most part.
