Famed animal sciences professor speaks to full house as part of lecture series

On Wednesday Nov. 17, Professor Temple Grandin of Colorado State University, subject of the Emmy award-winning HBO film Temple Grandin, spoke to an audience in Gamble Auditorium. The lecture was also streamed to Hooker Auditorium, where additional lecture attendees watched Grandin’s presentation.

Inauguration celebrations span entire weekend, spotlight new president

On Thursday Sep. 23, Mount Holyoke’s inauguration weekend kicked off in Gamble Auditorium with a panel focused on discussing women’s equality and social justice. Moderated by senior advisor and former president of the Global Fund for Women Kavita Ramdas ’85, the forum’s panelists included Princeton University professor of Philosophy Kwame Anthony Appiah, University of Michigan professor of law Catharine MacKinnon, and Joia Mukherjee, medical director of Partners in Health and assistant professor in the Division of Global Health Equity at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

Roosevelt chapter earns honors

Directors of the Roosevelt Institute Campus Network, which is active on over 80 campuses across the nation, have distinguished the Roosevelt Institute at Mount Holyoke College as this year’s Best New Chapter. Honored at the Roosevelt Institute Campus Network’s sixth leadership training weekend in Hyde Park, New York, Mount Holyoke’s chapter of the student public policy think tank beat out Boston University to receive the title.

Campus orgs hold Dining Services Awareness Week

Throughout the week of Sunday, April 25 until Friday, April 30, Mount Holyoke students are celebrating Dining Services Appreciation Week or D-SAP, sponsored by the Food Justice Society, Student Coalition for Action and Working Class Student’s Union. The purpose of the week is to provide Mount Holyoke students with the opportunity to thank Dining Services for their commitment to the college community as well as to learn more about the way Dining Services operates.

Dining Services to implement changes to Torrey, breakfast

On Monday, April 19, Dean of Students Liz Braun sent an email to the student body announcing two changes being made by Dining Services for the 2010-2011 academic year.

OneCard class colors make a comeback

On April 14 President of the Student Government Association (SGA) May Yang announced at the faculty meeting that the class-colored OneCards will be returning. At the request of the SGA, Dean of Students Liz Braun attended the senate meeting on April 13 and, after discussing the issue thoroughly with students, decided to reinstate the original OneCard system.

Posse partnership helps pay price of tuition for incoming students

At the beginning of this academic year, Mount Holyoke, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of California at Los Angeles partnered with The Posse Foundation, an organization committed to identifying public high school students with exceptional academic potential who otherwise may be overlooked by college selections committees.

Students respond to proposed Amherst outdoor smoking ban
