VT Senate votes to close plant

On Wednesday, Feb. 24, the Vermont Senate voted 24-6 against extending the state’s only nuclear power plant’s operating license by 20 years. In 2012, the plant, Vermont Yankee, will be decommissioned unless the new legislature votes otherwise.

Dems candidate gets nominated in primary

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley entered the Thirsty Mind last Thursday to overwhelming applause. Coakley is running for the senate seat that was held by Senator Edward Kennedy and, as of this past Tuesday, is the only Democrat in the running.

H1N1 vaccination clinic held for students, faculty and staff

Now that the H1N1 vaccine has arrived on campus, the Mount Holyoke Health Center has begun to organize clinics to distribute the preventative dosage. While the vaccine arrived later and in smaller quantity than originally hoped, there has not been a rush of demand either.

Alumnae Counseling at CDC now unavailable in the same form

In the interest of cutting costs, the Alumnae Association made the unannounced decision this year to reduce career counseling services previously offered to all alumnae. According to Steve Koppi, Director of the Career Development Center, alumnae who graduated within the past year will each be allotted three counseling appointments.

Day of Dialogue invites faculty and staff from the Five?Colleges

Next Tuesday Oct. 27, faculty and staff across the Five Colleges will participate in conversations on race and ethnicity, gender, religion and class and rank as a part of the Day of Dialogue program.

The event will address the importance of open conversation in creating sustainably welcoming campus environments.
