Culture shock for faculty and staff

The McCulloch Center for Global Initiatives has organized a workshop for faculty and staff on the issue of culture shock to take place on Dec. 16, the first reading day.

The workshop consists of two sessions. Participants will first watch a film directed by Stefan Botchev titled Culture Shock: International Students in the United States.

Ad hoc committee talk Amethyst Initiative

The Mount Holyoke Student Government Association (SGA) formed an ad hoc committee to discuss issues regarding the Amethyst Intiative and to address issues on the drinking culture on campus: the Ad Hoc Drug and Alcohol Taskforce. The ad hoc committee was formed to address two main issues: one, whether Mount Holyoke should sign on to a national campaign Choose Responsibility to lower the drinking age, and second, to re-examine administrative policies regarding the clarity of the amnesty policy, according to May Yang ’10, the President of SGA, and Jen Kovacs ’11, the Chair of Senate and a member of the taskforce.

Crowther takes on “Millionaire”

Kate Crowther FP’11 appeared on the ABC game show “Who wants to be a Millionaire” last Thursday.

Crowther, a Politics major and mother of three boys, has been watching the show with her husband “on and off for years.”

Alumnae giving stays strong despite economy

As the U.S. stock market recovers from the recession, the Campaign for Mount Holyoke, which raises funds for the College, has witnessed an increase in gifts and pledges.

The goal for the Campaign, which began in the fall of 2007 and will end in Dec. 2011, is $300 million.

New fee instituted at Kendall

Beginning Feb. 1, 2010, faculty and staff will be charged a $150 fee for the use of Kendall Sports and Dance Complex. This fee will include use of the new fitness center, the pool, the dance studios, the tennis courts, the squash courts, the racket ball courts and the new drop-in classes.
