Tennis triumphs together

After a successful match against American International College on Thursday, Mar. 24, the Lyons tennis team has maintained its momentum with a victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at the Kendall Gym Complex on Saturday, Apr. 2.

Community organizing from the roots up

Most of us look forward to J-Term as our time to catch up on sleep and do what we have less time for during the semester. For a group of 10 Mount Holyoke students, the latter meant traveling to the lower ninth ward of New Orleans to get their hands dirty.

What I Learned This Summer

Sometimes I feel like every other e-mail in my inbox involves internship or job prospects in some way. I don’t deny the importance of our active job network here at Mount Holyoke. In my opinion, one of the college’s more attractive selling points is the accessibility of experiences outside the classroom – research opportunities in high-tech labs, internships abroad, and many others. Having such resources at our fingertips makes me appreciative of Moho’s provisions for its students.

Students unite to combat climate change

On Wednesday April 21, the evening before Earth Day, I attended the Leadership Campaign’s final sleep-out of the semester on the Boston Commons. Unlike those on the Amherst and Cambridge Commons, this sleep-out did not have the official permission required to legally pitch a tent and spend the night. It did, however, have the same goals and gusto as every preceding sleep-out. The Leadership Campaign, joined by the Students for a Just and Stable Future (SJSF), organizes sleep-outs as a means of political demonstration. Both the Campaign and SJSF were formed on the premise that Massachusetts could emerge as a national leader in taking steps to prevent climate change.

Tennis team aces end of season

The Mount Holyoke tennis team ended its 2009-2010 season on a high note with a 7-2 victory over Union College here last Saturday.

Penultimate Tennis Match Results in Success

Lyons struggle in spring tennis opener against Bates

The Mount Holyoke tennis team struggled last Saturday in their first spring season home match, losing both singles and doubles matches against Bates College for a final outcome of 9-0.

Into the Great Outdoors

The Five College Outdoor Festival was held this weekend at Hampshire College, embracing the icy winter weather of Western Massachusetts. The festival, which took place on Friday, Feb. 26 and Saturday, Feb. 27, was held on several locations, including the campuses of Amherst and Hampshire Colleges. The festival takes place every year and is a [...]

Sleeping our way towards a sustainable future

On the eve of Saturday, Feb. 20, I joined over 100 students from schools across Massachusetts in an experience that simultaneously chilled and warmed me. The statewide sleep-out for climate change, located on the Amherst Commons, proved that proactive stances on a difficult matter are best accompanied by a group effort for change. While sub-20 [...]
