Lyons embrace “ubuntu” to defeat WNEC

The word ‘ubuntu’ is used by the NBA’s Celtics team to help remind them to put the team’s goals ahead of the of individual ones, and this is a motto the Mount Holyoke’s basketball team has decided to follow as well. Currently ‘ubuntu’ is taped above Head Coach Michelle Scecina’s door in hopes of reminding all athletes of what their main priority should be for the upcoming season.

Ice Hockey faces off against Smith and Bates in a double-header

Last weekend Mount Holyoke’s ice hockey team faced off in a double-header against both Smith College and Bates. “Unfortunately Mount Holyoke lost both games (Smith 5-0) and Bates (5-0). But the scoreboard did not reflect the true competitiveness of the games.

Where are you from? I’m from Miami, Florida! How long have you been playing basketball? I’ve been playing basketball since I was six years old. Any games you’re looking forward to? The game I’m most excited to play is against Smith College because I love the intensity, mutual respect and historical rivalry between the two teams.

Playing with heart

Cross Country Julia Merton ’13 led the way for Mount Holyoke at the NEWMAC Championship 5k race held at Franklin Park in Boston, MA. Merton crossed the finish line at the 21:38 mark and captured 46th place. The next Mount Holyoke runner to finish was Holly Valenzuela ’12, who came in 57th with a time of 22:02.
