All American Rejects come to Northampton

This Sunday Alternative rockers, the All American Rejects (AAR) will perform in Northampton, MA at the Pearl Street Night Club. Together since 1999 the group has spawned tons of hit singles like “Swing, Swing” (2003), “Dirty Little Secret” (2005) and “Gives You Hell” (2008).

The politics of: Footwear

As the saying goes, you don’t know someone until you walk a mile in their shoes. I think that this saying is going a little far. First of all, a mile is a super long distance—unless, of course, you live in Abbey, Buckland or Dickinson, and then that’s just your normal day-to-day walk about campus. Secondly, I think that we Mohos express ourselves through our footwear, and therefore we don’t need to walk a mile in someone’s shoes.

Candidates campaign for All-Campus Elections

On Tuesday evening, the Student Government Association (SGA) hosted its annual “Meet the Candidates” night to promote the upcoming All- Campus Elections. The elections will take place from March 28 to April 1 and bring in new members for both the SGA E-board and Class Board Representatives.

Readers react to the popularity of The Hunger Games: A less than satisfying game, unfulfilling

In The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins has taken a great idea and done nothing with it. Since its publication, the book has garnered a storm of popular support and has since taken up Twilight’s mantle as the latest young adult series phenomenon. This popularity is not entirely undeserved: the story is riveting. The novel is set in a country known as Panem, which emerged from the ruins of the former U.S., and is ruled by a markedly cruel dictatorship.

On Monday, March 5, Dean of the College Cerri Banks and Dean of Students Rene Davis hosted an open forum regarding Residential Life at 7:30 p.m. in the Blanchard Great Room.

Emerson becomes first addition to NEWMAC conference in 14 years

Last Tuesday the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the addition of an 11th school, Emerson College. The Boston-based university will add the following teams to compete with Mount Holyoke: basketball, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, tennis and volleyball. Emerson will also compete in softball as well as men’s team sports.

This Saturday the Lacrosse Team will have its season opener against New York State’s Skidmore College at 12:30 p.m. at home.

Swimming shatters records at NEWMAC Championship

This past weekend, Mount Holyoke’s Swimming and Diving Team broke nine College records, and finished tenth at the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships at MIT.

From sheep shearing to swimming: Lydia Bowers ’12

On Feb. 6 Lydia Bowers ’12 earned the Lyons their third award of the season, as the team’s second-ever New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Swimmer of the Week. The Swim team captain is currently only half a second off of the College’s 200 freestyle record, and is hoping to break it at this weekend’s NEWMAC Championships.
