It’s that time of the year again! Get ready to partake of peppermint mochas, listen to yet another cover of “All I Want For Christmas is You” and snuggle under a fluffy blanket. To help you navigate the tempestuous waters of holiday fashion, A&E has compiled a guide for your reading pleasure!
Things you should wear this holiday season:
1. Sequined dresses. There are many adorable and family-appropriate sequined dresses in most stores.
2. Cute accessories. Colored hoop earrings or satin headbands are the perfect things to make your holiday ensemble flirty and festive.
3. Weather appropriate clothing. If you’re going to a holiday party, wear something that is weather appropriate. It’s winter, so it’s not a bad idea to wear layers. Play around with leggings and over-the-knee socks.
4. Boots and heels. Instead of elf shoes, invest in a new pair of boots or heels. There are loads of sales over the holidays. You’re bound to find an amazing deal.
Things not to wear this holiday season:
1. Put away those chunky Christmas sweaters or any article of clothing with a reindeer sewn on to it. Maybe keep one around for an ugly sweater party at the end of the semester. But otherwise, please get rid of them.
2. Forsake your Santa hats, elf hats, antler headbands and anything else like it. Nobody should be allowed to wear those, especially if it has your name bedazzled on it. You also don’t want hat hair in all of your holiday photos.
3. Leave the clothes that light up and play Christmas carols in the closet. We don’t need to hear “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” every time you accidentally touch the switch on your shirt.
4. Those “Jingle Bell Rock” outfits from Mean Girls. They are really unflattering and might send the wrong message to your visiting distant cousin.
5. Don’t overdo the green and red. Green pants with a red shirt and a green headband with red flats is not a good look on anyone. You don’t want to be mistaken for one of Santa’s elves.
6. Earrings that are actually bells. We don’t want to hear you coming from across the hallway because of the jingle bells hanging off of your ear. It’s just plain obnoxious, especially during finals. Also, don’t wear earrings that make you look like you’re a Christmas tree.
This holiday season, try to stay warm. Be comfortable and lounge around instead of worrying. Make time to snuggle with someone. Enjoy being in your own bed at home. Take advantage of the seasonal flavours at Starbucks. Give yourself some time to relax and unwind and forget about your worries for a few seconds. Get some writing done or go outside and take some photos. Do whatever you need to do, but please stay away from those ugly sweaters.
