The Mount Holyoke tennis team ended its 2009-2010 season on a high note with a 7-2 victory over Union College here last Saturday.
Among the winning singles competitors were Nahrhee Han ’13, Sarah London ’10, Heather Richardson ’12 and My-Linh Nguyen ’13. The successful doubles teams were comprised of Sarah Moore ’12/Natalie Hsiang ’11, Nguyen/London and Richardson/Carly Peltier ’13. Mount Holyoke commanded right from the start with victories in all three doubles matches.
The Lyons had an overall record of 10-11 this season. While the team faced its fair share of challenges, Richardson acknowledges that the team is now much more united than at the beginning of the season. With strong competitive prowess in both the Seven Sisters tournament and, prior to that, a spring break tournament in Puerto Rico, the team gelled together more than ever.
Although this year’s team consisted of more first-years than returning players, its success was certainly due in part to contributors from the class of 2013. “It definitely took some time to get to know everybody with so many new faces,” said Richardson.
The Lyons also emerged victoriously last week at their home match against Roger Williams University, so the season certainly ended climatically. “Overall it’s been a good season and I can’t wait to start up again in the fall!” said Richardson.
