The search committee to find the next Public Safety director has narrowed down a pool of 93 applicants to two finalists: Deborah Crafts and Jeffrey J. Roy.
Crafts is scheduled to meet with the Student Government Association on April 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Cleveland Hall. Roy is scheduled to speak in Senate on April 27. Both meetings are open to the public.
Crafts is currently the Deputy Chief of the Public Safety department at Simmons College in Boston, where she has served since 2003. Her previous experience includes almost 13 years in the position of Administrative Lieutenant at Bentley College in Waltham, MA.
Roy has served as the Chief of Police in the Orleans, MA Police Department since 2003. His other experience includes being Captain of Administrative Services in the Amherst Police Department.
Roy rose in the ranks from Patrolman to Sergeant to Lieutenant in the Amherst Police Department between 1975 and 1986.
As Lieutenant, he was in charge of night operations, until 1992 when he was charged with overseeing the Detective Bureau. From 1997-1999, he headed the Community Services Bureau. Both candidates have experience working with students.
“We’re excited about our two candidates. I think they too are excited about the prospects of this job,” said Turner. “The plan is that [the interview] process will inform the next steps. We will be soliciting feedback from individuals who participate in the interview process.”
