Features Editor Pick of the Day: Money Matters: Women in Finance

As the summer is drawing closer, many of us are digging through our closets, doing the spring cleaning and planning to restock our summer clothes inventory. But before you hit the Holyoke Mall, you may be interested in reading New York Times finance reporter Tara Siegel Bernard’s column called “Financial Advice by Women for Women.” The article discusses recent finance books designed for women and the differences between the way men and women finance. According to the article, women in general seem to be less confident in financial matters than men. The good news is, studies show that women are less likely to engage in dicey financial decisions than men, and women can engage in finance groups to learn more. Eleanor Blayley, a Mount Holyoke alumna and financial planner, was quoted on how intelligent women are often clueless about finance. So before you spend $50 on that new pair of shorts think about whether it’s really necessary. We may like to shop, but that does not mean we do not know how to save.
