The Lyons Network is sponsoring The New England Women’s Global Leadership Conference 2010, which will take place in the Kendade Atrium on Saturday, March 27 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The conference will include panels exploring careers in the fields of finance, media, public policy, nonprofit and entertainment. Lyon Network Co-Chairs Arti Dhar ’10, Han Zhang ’10, Heba Al-Adawy ’10 and Vennie Encheva ’10 are planning the conference this spring. The students have been involved with the organization for the past four years.
After a fall version of the conference that drew about 350 students, Encheva says she expects around 200 to attend in the spring. Some of those students, she says, may take over their roles after they graduate.
“We have the support of different organizations and offices, but in general, it’s students who donate their time, get accommodations for speakers, work on logistics and all our marketing efforts,” said Encheva, an economics and mathematics major. “That’s all a product of students who are involved.”
Though most of the speakers are Mount Holyoke graduates, some were invited from outside the alumnae network, such as keynote speaker rector of the Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now (FFAWN). “They want to serve as mentors for students,” said Encheva.
Panel topics include Investment Banking, Sales, Trading and Research; Marketing and PR; Government and Public Policy; Investment Management, Hedge Funds and Private Equity; Media, Publishing and Journalism; Energy and the Environment; Economic and Management Consulting; and Nonprofits and NGOs, followed by a career fair.
Encheva says she hopes students will be inspired by the range of speakers, who come from a wide array of backgrounds.
“I think inspiration is the most important thing we’re trying to convey through this conference,” she said. “Taking that extra mile to spend some time over the weekend with alums and learning what to do to be successful.”
Founded in 1999 by Mount Holyoke alumnae in high positions at investment banks, The Lyons Network organizes conferences, speaker series, talks and workshops for women throughout the Northeast region.
