Questions for the White House

Dear Mount Holyoke students,

If you’ve ever had a question about public policy and higher education, keep reading.

The White House is partnering with HuffPost College to hold a live chat next week to discuss the accessibility of higher education in the U.S. But unlike other press events, they want all the questions to come from college students.

The way it works: Submit your questions to mhnews-news@mtholyoke.edu by Thursday, 11:59 p.m. We’ll choose three to send to HuffPost with a bit about you and why you asked it. Then, if HuffPost chooses your question for the interview, we’ll do a 30-second video about the question for their website. The college paper that produces the top-voted video for The Huffington Post will send an editor to DC to interview two White House officials in person.

Why it’s important: President Obama today signed the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, which aims to make higher education more affordable and help more American citizens earn degrees. The Act invests in the Pell Grant program, supports community colleges, increases funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs), expands the income-based student loan repayment program and replaces subsidized private loans with direct federal loans.

Feel free to ask for further clarification. More information is available about the Health Care and Reconciliation in Education Act here.

Thanks,
